The Bologna Process at Freie Universität Berlin

In light of its role as an “international network university,” Freie Universität Berlin took early action to implement the European reforms involved in the Bologna Process across the board. In passing its resolution to introduce bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in all disciplines throughout the university, Freie Universität has taken on a leading role among the research universities in Europe.

The German Rectors’ Conference (Hochschulrektorenkonferenz) was convinced by the strategy and plan right from the start. The Conference selected Freie Universität as one of the model higher education institutions that received aid as part of the Kompetenzzentrum Bologna (Bologna Center of Competence) project financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, which ran from 2005 through 2007.
