EUROPAEUM Summer School Marginalised Histories – Cultural Heritage & Archives 27-31 August 2024 | The University of St Andrews; Frist: 02.04.2024

News vom 23.02.2024

Cultural heritage institutions in Europe and beyond are increasingly rethinking how topresent their objects and collections in light of calls for inclusion and diversity. Theacademy is likewise concerned with expanding understandings of diverse culturalhistories, by addressing the absence and marginalisation of particular communities inthose histories, and interrogating the power hierarchies present in the writing ofhistory and in the preservation of culture. Calls for decolonialisation from within theacademy and beyond necessitate a rethinking of how we historicise and archive culturalartefacts. Meanwhile, digitisation and other digital tools creates new possibilities foraccess and engagement with archival materials while raising ethical considerationsabout reuse and reappropriation. In the face of widespread cuts to the arts and culturalheritage sector, alongside heightened political and cultural strife, in Europe and acrossthe globe, what is the future of ensuring our visual and material cultures become moreinclusive?

The EUROPAEUM would like to invite applications from Master’s and doctoralstudents at Europaeum member universities. Successful candidates will be providedwith accommodation free of charge and will be reimbursed reasonable travelexpenses within Europe.
