to Gender-Politik-Online,
an internet portal of the Department of Political and Social Sciences
at the Free University Berlin concerning gender subjects.
For some time gender relations have become an acknowledged
subject of research in the social sciences, especially in political
science and sociology.
It is a cross sectional topic that is tangent to all areas of the
particular subjects, from gender-specific voting behaviour and discrimination
in the labour market/ unequal employment opportunities to the questioning
of the fundamental premises of “classic” and contemporary
political philosophers and theorists. Moreover, the immediate practical
relevance of knowledge about the category “gender” is
reflected in the ubiquitous strategy of “Gender Mainstreaming”,
which is designed to make gender an essential part of all political
decision making processes in the European Union and its member states.
On this webpage you can find basic information
about the central topics of gender research and teaching. Added
to a short summary of the synoptic texts are further web links.
The respective texts can be downloaded as a PDF file by clicking
the button link.
This way, students at universities and colleges as well as journalists
and other people interested in gender research can inform themselves,
and teachers may use the texts in their classes with little effort.
Some of the contributions can also be downloaded in English, Polish
or Russian, some other papers are at least introduced by abstracts
in foreign languages.
